First Fosters

The Momma and puppy that started it all before Support Paws was even an idea. Momma (Kira) gave birth to a litter of 10 puppies at Shelby Humane Society an organization that does amazing work but with any shelter with the huge volume in animals that they care for not ideal for puppies that are brand new to the world. We brought momma and babies home as a foster family not realizing the effect it would have on our lives every moment after that. Unfortunately, due to the malnutrition of the momma from her time before getting human help from us or the Humane Society and illness that could have been contracted anywhere the puppies got sick. One by One we watched helplessly as the respiratory disease took them. We spent our days and nights rushing puppies to vets and doing anything we could think of to make them comfortable while fighting off the inevitable. We got good at giving medication and even with help from others made an oxygen tent for puppies to help them have a chance when they just couldn't breathe regularly anymore. Then only one puppy remained who wasn't the biggest puppy to start with and wasn't the smallest but had the determination to eat when she could barely crawl and breath even when it hurt and she had to sit in almost pure oxygen. Baby (Kassi) lived against all odds and made it to being a healthy puppy ready to be adopted. We started looking for adopters for this little girl who we already thought was a miracle when another Miracle happened. Kimberly and Kenneth Norris a couple we had never met before but have since become good friends contacted us and wanted to keep momma and baby together and move them only 4 miles away from us where we could see both of them often.Kira has gone from malnourished and someone having to have her puppies in a shelter to someone that is showered in love every day with full couch privileges. Kassi has gone from a tiny little puppy struggling to stay alive to a big puppy who celebrated her birthday with a party where all the four legged friends got pup cakes, toys, and maybe even a few Chick- Fil - A nuggets.
